Fat quarters from the Cotton+Steel collection
I don’t tend to make a big deal about anniversaries but I’ve been told it’s perhaps because I don’t take enough time to “celebrate wins”. But this surely must be a win. To have somehow made it to the ten-year mark with this little corner of the internet… where I’ve documented my learning experiences in knitting, dyeing, spinning, and weaving. I’m eternally grateful that this technology exists and that it made possible these precious connections with other crafters around the world. Thank you to all the people who have read this blog and followed along with my smattering of crafty exploits.
They say, on average, hobbies last about three years at a time. So I’m pleasantly surprised with myself that even after ten years of crafting and writing, I still feel as wide-eyed and keen as I did with my first post. Ten years ago today, I was naively awaiting the arrival of several online yarn purchases (typical)… Today, I find myself sitting at my computer, surrounded by a half-completed baby quilt that I’m in love with, an in-progress Lush cardigan (in the new Mulberry colourway), and a pack of fat quarters cut from the new Cotton & Steel collection… The fact that this little packet of fabric has made me super giddy all day and slightly distracted from my “real work” is evidence to me that I still love making things with beautiful materials above all else.
I think I’ll celebrate this “win” with a little knitting, True Blood, and ice cream.

I still like to read my favourite blogs, but it can be hard to keep up because they are all on different blog engines. I cruise Instagram and pinterest more often. It’s been really amazing to watch Sweet Georgia grow into a newer, bigger studio and to have taken your spinning class! I am moving to Sweden now so I think I should stop by knit city and get one of your Vancouver-related colourways to remind me of home! It’s been such a fun journey and I am sure I will come visit :) And keep posting to instagram I check it every few days usually!

I still love reading blogs, and since learning to spin earlier this year, YouTube has become my first avenue for figuring out how to do new things. I’d love to get out to classes more often, but sometimes it’s just not possible, so online resources are the next best thing for me!

I do still read blogs, but I also use Pinterest and Instagram more regularly. I usually have a few hours a week that I set aside to just dive into my knitting blogs. I use Feedly, which is a delightful feed reader that I love :) I find Knitting blogs to still be a big source for inspiration and introduction to new yarns, techniques and styles.

Instagram has absolutely replaced blogs for me. Very rarely do I sit at my computer and read blog posts anymore, if at all. Scrolling through my IG feed, I get to stay up to date on my fave bloggin’ families and knitting/crafting wizards.

I end up following the ones I like on Twitter, and rely on new blog posts being announced there. I use Instagram a lot. I love following people with similar interests for a never ending stream of inspiration.

I love reading the knitting blogs, the experience and wealth of information is far greater for me than Instagram but pictures are great but then again I still go to the library to get books to read. I do like YouTube for learning new techniques.

I haven’t jumped on the Instagram wagon yet, I prefer to read the stories of the many amazing crafty ladies that I follow weekly. I have learned so many techniques from these blogs and found more patterns that I want to knit, then I will have time for in my lifetime. Long live the blogging community!

I read blogs voraciously and have learned to knit, spin, and weave all in the last year. I also look at Pinterest and Facebook. I took your Craftsy class on spinning dyed fibers and really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with all of us!

The web atmosphere opened a whole new world for me 5 years ago that I learnt knitting from my mom’s summer visit. With just the basics to start, I haven’t stop learning every single day. Four kids and all.

Wow! 10 years. Congratulations!! Though I waste too much time on Pinterest, I still prefer to read my knitting blogs. I enjoy getting a peak into what people are thinking as the approach and work their way through projects. More than one has convinced me to finish a project I thought was too difficult or to frog one I didn’t like.

As a (wannabee) blogger myself, I can’t find the time which is why I’m always so impressed and envious at all the blogs I follow posting on a regular basis. I mostly read blogs – don’t have one myself. Knitting has been a lifelong meditation/activity for me. Seeing the universal themes is very comforting. Things haven’t really changed that much over the years. To some degree, blogging has enlarged the community knitting circle :-). I still prefer and do get together with our group.

If it’s done right, I find there’s more personality and more depth in a blog. Instagram is faster and more visual, but it’s blogs for me.

Once I started knitting, blog-reading fell by the wayside in favour of playing with yarn. I try to keep up with my favourites through FB, Twitter and Ravelry and they have been great ways of connecting with people who share my passions.

Congratulations on your ten year anniversary! I like reading blogs, but I check Pinterest more often. I use YouTube and blogs if I need to master new techniques.

Felicia -you are responsible for kick starting a whole new interest in hand dyed yarn, and have cost me deep in the purse as my stash has grown over the last few years.When I retired a couplr of years ago, and cut back on spending, I allowed myself to be seduced by Sweet Georgia’s yarn club each winter-opening the small boxes (that sneek under UK custom’s radar.) is an absolute joy.. Marvellously, I can now buy some of your yarn in the UK!!

I read some blogs-mostly of small independent dyers and designers- and occasionally join in- tune in to some twitter feeds when there is something I’m particularly interested in, rarely use FB, and don’t use instagram or pinterest-although my daughters are hassling me about the latter.

I still read blogs, and I find social media like Instagram and pinterest are fantastic ways to find new ones or be notified of new posts and project updates :)

Gosh – its changed a ton. Used to read blogs daily. Now I try to hit the highlights every week or so? Instagram definitely happens daily to check out various knitters and projects. But over the last 10 years I’ve gone from SAHM with contracting work on the side from home, to working full-time plus outside of the home as my children are leaving the nest. Funny how that changes your available leisure time!

I especially love reading the humorous aspects of knitting (which is why I love reading the Yarn Harlot, she’s made me snort a few times on the sky train in the morning! lol). I also feel that blogging is therapeutic, I love to write about my projects and share them with fellow knitters. :) Congrats Felicia on 10 years!! Keep writing and we’ll keep on reading!

Congratulations on the 10 years! I find that knitting blogs inspire me to be creative (I just have to step away from the computer more!) I think that the big changes in the past years is that there is a lot more hand dyed and hand spun yarns – which is wonderful.

Congrats on the blogaversary! Blogs are one of my main online activities. I have so many excellent ones to read through, but feedly helps speed that up. I’ve learned so much from various blogs (not to mention have been enabled so much through them as well). Here’s to another 10 years!

Although I love the photos on Instagram, I still follow several blogs. Sometimes a new (or new to me) technique or announcement of a new colourway that catches my eye, but I always enjoy reading them. I would have to say that reading, listening and watching knitting blogs and podcasts has opened me to so many new possibilities and helped my knitting skills continue to improve.

Congratulations Felicia! I enjoy reading my blogs. I have a handful of bloggers I follow now, knitting, sewing, spinning, and painting. I used to have many but had to cut down do to every day life happening around me. The bloggers I do follow offer so much and I appreciate everything they have to offer.
