I love the beginning of a new quarter because it means a new limited-edition sock blank is in store! Saltwater Taffy is a fresh, summery colourway that pairs perfectly with our new Marella scarf knitting pattern.
A Perfect Summer Treat: Saltwater Taffy
Watermelon, peach, lemon, mint, and even a hint of tropical berries! Thereโs just something about aisles of colourful taffy candies that have us dreaming of summer hues. The bright shades are like a memory of cotton candy on the boardwalk or the sunshine on your face. Our new sock blank, aptly named Saltwater Taffy, takes you right there. Feel the wind in your hair, the crash of ocean waves, and the sweet tang of taffy with every stitch of this gorgeous yarn.
The limited-edition colourway features luminous hues of pink, orange, gold, green, and seaside blue. Tropical, dazzling, and summery. Saltwater Taffy makes all your projects better than a summer vacation.
Weโve designed the colour sections in this 425 yd / 388 m single-strand blank to be long enough for lace and texture to stand out. A single sock blank is ideal for any single-skein accessory youโve been dreaming of, such as the new Marella scarf (see below for more details on that) or Cherry Bellini (one of our favourites). Or pair your sock blank with one of our semi-solid fingering weight yarns for a shawl, like we did with Kiowa and Rivan for our Reimagined Three capsule.
Weโve dyed these shades onto a machine knit Stockinette stitch tube, which allows you to achieve a gradient effect in your project without having to change yarns. Simply cast on with the tail and let the colours work their magic directly from the sock blank. You could wind the blank into a cupcake to work from the other end. Whatever your starting choice, the results with Saltwater Taffy will be the same: bright, fun, and oh-so colourful.
A Summery Scarf: Marella
Broken Rib is a textural paradise when paired with gentle waves of lacy bands in the Marella scarf by Tabetha Hedrick. This delectable combination welcomes all your favourite colour options, from single-colour to multi-colour. Perfect for lace beginners, yet satisfying for the pro, this fun accessory has plenty of room for customization.
One Sock Blank is all you need for this simple scarf. Itโs worked flat in two halves and then grafted together in the center with Kitchener Stitch. Perhaps youโd like to try making it wider for a stole? Just add 12 more stitches at a time until you get to your desired width (youโll need a skein or two more yarn). Or try working the lace bits in a different colour.
As always, we chart and write out our stitch patterns for your preference. You can find Marella on the website and on Ravelry.
