Modeled by the delightful and charming Yammie, a kits production and studio assistant, Aare is a beautifully simple, yet utterly textural hat pattern from Madeleine Windsor and is found in our Holidays with SweetGeorgia, Vol. 3 collection.
Beautiful and cozy, with a gorgeous panel of stitches reminiscent of Columbine buds, Aare is lovely enough to keep or gift. The patterning is just enough without being overwhelming, while the Italian Cast On and twisted-rib brim give a thoroughly polished look.
The hat uses a few unique techniques, which Madeleine lovingly walks us through in the pattern. The brim is worked in 1×1 twisted rib, in the pattern only the knit stitches are worked through the back loops, but you can also work the purl stitches through the back loop if preferred. Once the brim is complete the main part of the hat is set up, and markers placed either side of the feature stitch panel. The final hat is a stretchy beanie-style intended to be worn with 3-4″ / 7-10 cm negative ease. The three sizes given correspond to child/teen (adult medium, adult large).
