Assam from “High Tea”

My assam breakfast tea has a surprisingly bold flavor, though balanced with a delicate fruitiness that is a bright as the gorgeous golden colour that fills my tea cup. Sipping on the light malty notes is like experiencing something new and invigorating. Not too much, not too little — just right.

With a hint of lace in a classic feminine silhouette, Assam cardigan, worked in Superwash Sport, offers a lovely layer of lightweight warmth, delectable texture, and utter femininity. From the soft fit to the set-in sleeves, itโ€™s a charming garment that pairs perfectly with jeans or spring sundresses.

My original sketch of this piece placed the lace all over, but it struck me that the concept of lightweight should be applied to the actual making-of, too. Casual, effortless – it needed to be simplified to meet those idea, so I removed the lace from the backs and the sleeves and badda-bing, we have an oh-so-beautiful cardigan that can truly be dressed up or down with ease.

The cardigan body pattern is worked in one piece from hem to armholes, before dividing to the work the yokes separately. The sleeves are then worked individually before seaming into the armholes. Once the cardigan is seamed, the trim is picked up around the entire edging and worked in the round. It’s a project with minimal seaming, yet refined structure.
