Well, my friends, here we are. Clue Five and the very last week of our Autumn Dahlias Mystery Knit-Along.
Summer fades into the cool brush of wind across the fading petals, but not without one last burst of colour with some late dahlia blooms. One more chance to delight amidst the yellow leaves just falling. Similarly, Clue Five has its own pop of texture and colour before you’re done. And at the end, I hope you walk away with a fun, personal, cozy shawl to be proud of.
August 30, 2022: Clue Five updated to Version 1.01 –ย The updated version adds a missing “Join CC1” at the beginning of Final Garter Decrease.ย
August 30, 2022: Clue Five updated to Version 1.1 – The updated version corrects Row 29 in both the chart and written instructions. The chart was missing the s2kp and then it should read k5 after the s2kp (not k6).ย
I have one last tutorial to help you near the end of Clue Five: Knitting TutorialโPicot Bind Off.
Remember to take your time and relish the connection each stitch brings. That connection is the best part of an MKAL. We’ve been in this together from Day One, which means you carry everyone’s heart in the work of your shawl to carry you through the season ahead.
Come join us on the SweetGeorgia Blog with your thoughtsโyou can also share links to your Ravelry page! For School Members, you can share your progress with the other students in the Autumn Dahlias MKAL Group. And for our Instagram-er friends, tag us in your shares so we can ogle your colours (#sweetgeorgiaMKAL and #sweetgeorgiayarns are great hashtags to use).
Oh, and look for the whole Autumn Dahlias pattern to be sent out on September 13!
Thank you SO much for knitting along with us, for sharing your lessons and progress, and for all the joy and laughter you brought to our days.
Happy knitting, my friends.
Thanks for the last Clue!! I was worried when the site was down this morning ;). Can you remind me of the amounts of yarn used in each color? Iโm getting nervous I wonโt have enough of CC2โฆ
Amanda
Oh man! We were all on pins and needles trying to get the site fixed. haha!
On average between the testers and I, we used:
MC โ 80-95g, CC1 โ 75-93g, and CC2 โ 84-105g
CC2 uses the most, so you should be running low by this point. If you do run out, I’d just recommend switching to one of the other colours for where CC2 is called for. :)
Hi.
On row 7 โtwiceโ is written after the brackets. What does the โrepeat twiceโ refer to in this row?
Thank you
Ohhh! Looks like my chart maker was being silly – the stitches in the brackets are a total of 10 sts, and so in order to make it be a 20 st rep, it added the twice around the brackets. It’s not an error (technically), but I should have caught it and removed it. So, long story short, you can ignore it completely and I’ll delete that “twice” when I get a chance to update the clue later on. Sorry for that confusion!
Thanks for the last clue, I jad to start over this week at clue 1, so am way behind. Looking forward to completing it in a few weeks. Cantwait to see everyone’s posts to see how it turns out.
You’re welcome and take your time! We aren’t going anywhere. Grin.
Awesome Tabetha, I’m good at stranded colour work, but lace I have not done much of, so this is a genuine learning experience. I look forward to gaining some extra skills through this and it won’t be the last MKAL I participate in. It’s been a bit frustrating for me, but fun at the same time. So happy to see everyone’s progress!
Ahh! Yes, learning new skills always seems to be that frustrating-fun conundrum. Ha! And I’m TERRIBLE at colorwork!
Hi again! I love watching the colours play thru this shawl!!
Do you happen to have a guesstimate of how much yarn would be needed for the picked-up, picot edging? Iโm down to the final section of this clue, using CC1. While Iโve still a way to go before the pickup begins, Iโm curious :D
Amanda
Hmmmm… that is NOT one of the things I thought to record. Doh! So sorry about that!
Oh this is a bummer. Well Iโve thought of a way to possibly solve the โnot quite enough left overโ problem. What do you think of using one color to pickup the edge sts, then using another to do the picot bind off? Iโve weighed my leftovers:
MC=22g
CC1=23g
CC2=16g

Just a note for those worried about their leftover yarn.
Iโm halfway thru the picot bind off, using the remains of my CC2. I began with 16g, picked up the 298 sts, knit a row, and now that Iโve finished half the BO, I have 8g left. This should be just enough to finish
Amanda
Thanks for this!
Iโve finished!! I was left with 3g of my CC2 at the very end โค๏ธ
