The abundant swath of dahlias sway against the skyline, seeming to wave their last farewells to the summer sun. At the height of their bloom, autumn seeps into the air like a whisper and the landscape takes on a richer hue. Dahlia’s soft petals, perfect and vibrant, beckon us into the season… and on to Clue One of SweetGeorgia Yarn’s 5th Annual Mystery Knit-Along (MKAL)!
Week One’s clue is going to walk you through the Gauge Swatch (if you haven’t already done it), the shawl setup, and three different stitch patterns. The best part is getting to jump right into using all the different colours!
Update on Aug 5, 2022: three small errors were found on Rows 2, 4, and 6 of the Mosaic Increase. Version 1.1 was sent out to everyone, but feel free to check out www.woocommerce-414791-4028440.cloudwaysapps.com/errata; we update it frequently.

I got the email that says it’s time to cast on (looks like the post here), but I can’t download Clue 1. It’s still a placeholder in my downloads on this site. Any ideas?

Thanks again, Tabitha!! While my sock blank is drying, I’ll ask my other questions . Should I weight the sock blank to get it straight/not-kinky, or will it relax more as it dries? Never used one before . And in the pattern: under the Mosaic Section, does Row 16 use the MC like in Row 15 above? The color isn’t listed in the written instructions. Using the MC would keep the 2-row pattern going

Haha–No problem!
Weight is never a bad idea, but if you wrapped the yarn around a chair or something to skein it, I would just put it back on that.
AND! Not sure how I missed a row, but yes, you’ll use the same colour as the row before.
Hi! I am just starting the first tweed increase and with k1 s1 wyif I just wanted to check that I am supposed to pass the yarn around the leg of the slipped stitch and not over the needle like I would with brioche. Thank you!
Hey there, Yes, you are going to k1, and then bring your yarn to the front towards you from between the needles, slip the next stitch, then move the yarn back between the needles to knit your next stitch. Hello again . I’m into the first Tweed Increase, and I just wanted to double check that the CC2 rows have the slipped stitches with the yarn in front? I’ve got pink dashes between my teal knit ‘v’s.

I have another pattern question: on Row 2 of the Mosaic section, it says:

Row 1 (RS): With CC2, kl, kfb, k15, s2kp, k3,
sl 2 wyib, k6, sl 2 wyib, [k10, sl 2 wyib, k6,
sl2 wyib] twice, k4, kfb, k1. 79 sts.
Row 2 (WS): With CC2, sl1 wyif, kfb, p5,
[sl2 wyif, p6, sl 2 wyif, p10] twice, sl 2 wyif,
p6, si 2 wyif, p1, kl, p2, k17, sl1 wyif. 80 sts.
The p1, k1, p2 in the last line isn’t on the chart. Seems all the WS rows have this – to account for the spine stitch – in the written directions, but the carts are all purls thru the spine, then switch to knit
Is the written correct?

Actually, Row 2 looks like it should be ‘p3, k18, sl 1 wyif’, to keep with the ‘2 sides’ on either side of the spine stitch.

Also, the same problem seems to be on all the WS rows; they don’t match the written pattern.
I did the written directions for WS rows 2 and 4, but row 6 written has us now knitting the spine stitch instead of purling it.

Yes. I was following the mosaic written instructions but row 6 was not working out. However the chart seems to be correct as far as keeping the spine intact. According to the chart, the end of row 6 after the repeat portion should be p3, k17, sl 1 wyif

Hi, Tabetha – thanks for a great cast-on party on Tuesday. Are you able to provide us with an estimate of actual yarn usage of each colour or is that part of the mystery? Thanks!
Let’s see… Based on my notes and the test knitters (who had slightly different gauge results), we used about: MC – 80-95g, CC1 – 75-93g, and CC2 – 84-105g
Just to double check, the chart seems to have stayed the same, but the written part was changed. Is this correct?
If so, how do I go back and switch those stitches in rows 2 and 4 that I had knit (per the written instructions), but should have purled?

I finished the clue (Friday) without any other problems, and found a video on how to fix those few stitches I needed. ;D
