“Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things”
I don’t know why, but the endearing lyrics from Julie Andrew’s “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music played in my head on repeat the entire time I knit with the gorgeous new Magician colourway on our delicious new Mohair Silk DK yarn.
Can you blame my brain, really? I mean, everything about this is my favourite, from the array of muted purples and blues that dance like a variegated, but blend like a semi-solid (I call that “magic” for sure) to the sumptuous drape and loft of mohair, merino, and silk as if they were wed in a perfect union … It’s like … like … whiskers on kittens, by golly!
Seriously, though, I think this colourway, with its mystical shift of translucent-like tones, is a masterpiece from our studio dyers. I feel as though I can look for ages and never reach the depth contained with. And on this new yarn? Just wow. The 12-ply yarn is rich and round makes stitches pop like the bark of an evergreen, textural and captivating. I would wager that this could be your favourite thing, too.
I decided that a cable pattern would be just the ticket to show this yarn and colour off. Using size US 6 needles (for a little bit of drape), the small mix of cables and lace work in perfect unison with the hues, allowing them to shift like magic across the fabric. Care to give the stitch pattern a try?
