Coming Soon: Unravel 2014

Unravel 2014

Our sales rep in the UK, Allison, has been busy introducing our yarns to shops across the country and is getting a booth ready for our first consumer show โ€” Unravel. The show is happening at Farnham Maltings, the 21-23 of February.

When I started working with Felicia as her sales rep last year, I tried to get to as many of the UK’s yarn and fibre shows as possible to get a feel for how knitters and crocheters and spinners over here embrace the fibre arts. (Turns out they are just as fanatical and enthusiastic about yarn-y things as we are in North America!). One of the first shows that I had the pleasure of getting to was Unravel, a busy show held in Surrey just outside of London.

The show is held at Farnham Maltings โ€” a collection of buildings that was originally home to various breweries during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, it’s a space for artists and makers to come together with visitors to make art, encourage the development of small businesses, and foster creativity within the community. As a venue to hold a yarn show โ€” it’s pretty amazing! There are a few different floors, and various rooms, each one holding new and wonderful delights from a wide variety of vendors. Visiting the show is like wandering through Aladdin’s Cave โ€” only the treasures are beautiful yarns and fibres!

It was very exciting then, to learn that our application for a booth had been accepted! And little bit nerve-wracking too since this will be our very first consumer show here in the UK. We’re excited to introduce our yarns to folks that might not have heard of us, or for those who have โ€” that they’ll finally have a chance to pet our yarns in person! And as an extra special bonus for our UK fans โ€” they’ll be seeing the brand new Spring 2014 colours, which were only just revealed at TNNA a few weeks ago!

We’ve got some beautiful kits to tempt you with. Perfect one and two skein projects to give you a chance to try some of our luscious yarns. Have you been admiring our new Rivoli Shawl by UK designer Anniken Allis? We’ll have that in a kit in Merino Silk Lace. Same goes with the Hadria Shawl in Merino Silk Fine. Or how about trying out two colours of CashLuxe Fine on our Bloodwood Cowl? We’ll have that one too.ย The samples from these and some of our other projects will also be available for you to try out. You know you’ll look fabulous in SweetGeorgia!

And something new too โ€” a very special, very exclusive to the UK, lace shawl kit that we’ve been working on with a UK designer and our good friends at Soak. Any guesses what we’ve got for you?

Oh but I can’t forget the spinners!ย We will also have some colourful braids of Polwarth+Silk, BFL+Silk, and Panda blends for your spinning pleasure!

Over the next few weeks leading up to the show I’ll be blogging again with more details about the show โ€” where you can find us, exactly what we’ll have for you and what methods of payment we’ll be accepting (hint: cash only this time around). And if you’re not able to join us, I’ll also be blogging about you where you can find SweetGeorgia both in person and online, right here in the UK. Stay tuned!

How would you like to go to Unravel?

We’ve got a pair of weekend tickets to give away (travel not included!) that will get you in for both days of the show. Leave a comment with your favourite SweetGeorgia base and colour, along with where you’d be travelling from, by midnight GMT on Sunday, 9 February 2014. You must be in the UK to win! Make sure too that you leave your email or a Ravelry name so that we can get in touch.ย We’ll use a random number generator to select a winner the week of February 10th.

Cashsilk lace in Ultraviolet would be perfect for a lace shawl! I moved to London from the US so Unravel would be my first UK festival.

I would be terribly tempted by Merino Silk Fine in Goldmine. (Well, most of the colours, really – I was torn between Goldmine and Amethyst, and also between the MSF and the Tough Love and Superwash sock yarns!) I’m in London, and though I couldn’t make the Sunday because I have a rehearsal that day, I’d been wondering if I could manage the Saturday…

I love, love, love spinning BFL/silk combinations, 75%/25%. Easy spinning, lovely results. My favourite colourway you’ve done so far was Sitka Spruce. Those greens, blues, greys and browns just made my day.

Just moved to Cheltenham in Gloucestershire in November so Unravel should be my first UK festival :)

Favourite … hmm… I would say Spring Garden in Tough Love Sock is my favourite. I miss getting the sock club yarns!

I would love to try my first pair of socks with one of your gorgous yarns. Maybe Cashlux Fine in Pumpkin – beautiful! I only live a few hours from the festival and I’d love to go. :)

Call me utilitarian but I like strength/substance in my base – Pineapple Express in Tough Love Sock is my favorite bias. So much that I’m planning a Color Affection in the 3 base colors (yellow/green/brown) of that colorway albeit in a different yarn (inspirational much?)

I live in London so it would just be a matter of a quick train ride down to Unravel. Stoked to see such a huge SG presence in the UK soon! We have some of your yarns; now we just need your fiber more permanently :D
