As a teen I spent my summers at a camp – as an advanced camper, I spent the better part of a week hiking and building lean-to’s in the trees. The hat design was inspired by the rays of sunlight peeking through the trees each morning as we made breakfast.
Inspired by the rays of filtered light that peek through the trees of the forest, Dapple features delicate columns of yarn overs from brim to crown, capturing the essence of that dappled glow. Knit up in our lightweight Superwash Sport, it’s a perfectly cozy hat for everyday wear.
Meaghan’s Tip for Knitting Dapple
The ribbing is so supple that it’s best to use a slightly smaller needle size for the cast-on.
Behind the Brilliance: Meaghan’s Five Faves
- Fave way to spend the evening after work: My husband and I are total TV-aholics. Many of our evenings are spent catching up on the previous evenings recorded TV shows and cuddling our dogs. During that time I do what I call “joy knitting” – knitting for pleasure, rather than work. It’s often a pair of socks since I can knit those with my eyes closed (or on the TV).
- Fave yarn weight: Fingering/sock weight – I almost always know what to do with yarn in this weight and especially love a little silk in the fiber content. The blocking of it is just magic!
- Fave guilty pleasure: Afternoon naps on weekdays! Some days a girl just needs a break and the best way to do this, for me, is to grab the pups, cuddle up in bed and read a book until I fall asleep. I usually only get an hour of time when this happens but it’s bliss when it does.
- Fave fall colours: Pumpkin and copper – they make me feel cozy!
- Fave thing to wear in the fall: Skinny jeans, a chambray shirt and a shawl or cowl that I’ve knit. Anything to get the pop of color I crave, and something to keep my shoulders/neck warm.
