I absolutely love simple knitwear that shows off the beauty and unique features of yarn and I love when it has just a little something that catches your eye. As I was looking through different knitting magazines, I noticed some knitwear that featured a button or two and I thought it would be really neat to have a pair of mitts that had buttons up the side.

The new Superwash Sport feels divine in the charming Eleanor Mitts from Andrea Grunden. Simple, delicate stitches exude an understated elegance, allowing the small details to make a bold statement. Unexpected colour steps off the fabric of Stockinette stitch and ribbing in this enchanting mitten pattern, worked flat, that will delight knitters of all skill levels.

Intarsia, or working with more than one colour, might seem scary at first, but just practice my tutorial to become a master! Also, experiment with different colours and buttons to really change the overall feel and look.

Behind the Brilliance: Andrea’s Five Faves

Favourite way to spend Saturday morning: Quiet, laid back Saturday mornings are my favourite. I enjoy a cup of coffee, while my husband makes breakfast for the family. If I am extra lucky I get some spinning or knitting in after breakfast.

Favourite knitting tool or fiber: It is so hard to choose a favourite fiber. Recently, I received a gift subscription to the Sweet Georgia fiber club and it has been so exciting to be introduced to a variety of fibers. Recently, I have been working on a project with silk cashmere and that is amazing yarn to work with.

Favourite guilty pleasure: When my husband has to be out for an evening, I get the kids to be as soon as possible and then my evening consists of dark chocolate, a knitting project and Doctor Who (I am a bit of a science fiction nerd).

Favourite colour: A soft lilac purple is one of my all time favourites. Recently, I have been drawn also to mint green and gray.

Favourite thing to wear in the fall: On cool fall days I love a soft cowl or a shawl. It is rare to find me without a cowl or shawl on a fall day.
