Many of you guys know that last fall, we collaborated with a local Vancouver designer, Holli Yeoh, to put together a book called Tempest. It’s 11 patterns that include garments as well as smaller accessories like cowls, hats, mitts, and a blanket. This was our first time doing anything like this before — for both Holli and us at SweetGeorgia. We have published individual patterns with other designers before, but this is the first time we did it in a printed book format. Holli approached me about doing a book like this maybe a month before Russell was born and somehow I thought it would a totally easy thing to produce a book during my so called maternity leave. Little did I know how much work it was going to be! Holli did all the swatching and designing of the pieces, we collaborated together on theme and color palette, sending ideas back and forth. And later I worked out all the design and layout of the actual book. And both Holli’s husband Rod and I helped with photography for the book. Holli and I shot tutorial videos for many of the techniques used in the book too and you can find those videos on the website we set up for the book, at tempestknit.com.

It was an incredible learning experience and I thoroughly enjoyed working with Holli. She is a very thoughtful and intentional knitwear designer with incredible skill and knowledge around finishing your knits. Her work is professional, through and through. Since this month Holli and I are releasing all the patterns from Tempest as individual patterns on Ravelry, I thought it would be a nice idea to introduce you guys to Holli and get to know her a bit better as I have over the past couple of years.
