First Ever SweetGeorgia Mystery Shawl Knit-along

Right before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, don’t you want to settle in to soft textures, flowing stitches, and delectable colours? Us, too! And, with that, we areย so excited to welcome you to the first-ever SweetGeorgia Mystery Shawl Knit-Along! This short little MKAL, tucked in at the beginning of fall, is just the ticket for a new accessory. Read the following details carefully so that you can decide if this is a project you are ready to join us on …

Purchase

The pattern is currently only available on Ravelry in advance of the MKAL at a 25% discount ($6). The final shawl pattern, called Cederberg, will be revealed and published on all store platforms on Oct 31 for the full retail price of $8 and sent out as a final pattern update to knitalongers.

How Do I Sign Up?

Simply purchasing your pattern on Ravelry automatically signs you up. To get the full experience of fun and camaraderie in this MKAL, though, join us in the Sweet SweetGeorgia Ravelry Group for all the announcements, chat, and spoiler threads.
The MKAL will run from Oct 10 to Oct 30.

Clues

3 weekly clues will be released on the following dates:
Clue 1: Oct 10
Clue 2: Oct 17
Clue 3: Oct 24
Each clue will be sent out as a “Pattern Update” and will need to be downloaded from your Ravelry library. The final pattern will release Oct 31.

Shape

A large asymmetrical shawl knit sideways

Skill Level

Beginner to Intermediate – there are a couple of sections, approximately 30% of the total project, of easy lace (that will be both written and charted for your preference), but the bulk of the shawl is worked in very easy garter stitch and/or slipped stitches.

Finished Measurements

102″ / 259 cm wide and 26″ / 66 cm at deepest point

Yarn

3 skeins SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock, 1 each in a Main Colour (MC), Variegated Colour (CC1), and Dark Contrast Colour (CC2) (425 yd / 389 m total; 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon).
The pattern uses up nearly all of the yarn, totaling to about 1250 yards. Changes in gauge will change the amount of yarn used, so remember this in your planning.

Needles & Notions

Size 6 US / 4 mm circular needle, 32″ / 80 cm long
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge

21 sts and 44 rows = 4″ / 10 cm in Garter stitch, blocked.
Note that gauge is not crucial, but will affect yardage and finished size.

Choosing Colours

This is a deliciously large shawl, so first and foremost, choose colours that you feel excited about! When picking out your hues, here are some thoughts to consider:
MC: A very light, neutral tone.
CC1: A “splashed” variegated or speckled yarn.
CC2: A medium to dark accent to your variegated CC1.
The following colour set ideas are also available as kits HERE. The pattern sample was knit in Monteagle.
