If you are anything like me, you’re tempted constantly by the intriguing realm of colourwork. Whether it’s playing with colour wheels, colour theory, or just holding two hues together to see how they contrast, colour opens up an endless array of possibility (which, of course, is why we love it so much). Certain techniques, however, such as fair isle or intarsia, might seem a little daunting, especially for beginners, and especially when all you crave is something simple.
Say no more! Fanciful, simple, wonderful stripes are the answer! Here are our top five favourite striped knits that will satisfy your colourwork desire without the effort.
Lagom – $8 CAD This cute little shawl is quick to whip up with easy garter stitch and an asymmetrical shape. The stripes are perfectly suited for our Party of Five sets, too, for a subtle change. Try Royals with Silver, Wildfire with Birch, or Graphite with Candy Floss!
Wylene – $9 CAD Consider this the perfect little number for spring, with delicate picot edgings and a flattering fit. It blends a semi-solid with a variegated for a fun effect. Try Gelato with Apricot, Petal with Birch, or Spring Garden with Lilac.
Asante – FREE With an easy construction and slight hints of texture, this cowl pattern is perfect for our Party of Five sets. Imagine it in Honey Fig, Sea to Sky, or our brand new Graphite set.
Second Beach – $8 CAD This lightweight cowl with delicate lace is as lovely as ripples in the ocean. Some colourways to consider are Mint Julep and Birch, Empress and Silver, or Ginger and Saffron.
Petal Cowl – $8 CAD This delightfully elegant cowl uses two skeins of Superwash Worsted in a variegated and a complimentary semisolid. Try Boheme and Tumbled Stone, Gelato and Passionfruit, or Tooth Fairy and Birch.
