Quickly, quickly! We’re working feverishly at the studio to get a ton of yarn orders AND the Fibre/Yarn Club out the door before I head to New York this Friday. It’ll be my first time in NYC and (besides seeing Jimmy Fallon and Wicked and tweeting all about it) I’ll be attending the Vogue Knitting Live event as well as giving a little talk at Knitty City on Thursday, January 20th. If you’re nearby, come on down! Knitty City is at 208 W. 79th St. in New York. I’m really quite shy, but I’m hoping you’re not… so please come say hi.
One of the big yarn orders we’re working on right now is for Unwind in Burbank, California, as they get ready to attend their first ever Stitches West. If you are headed to Stitches West (February 17 to 20 in Santa Clara, CA), be sure to stop by Unwind (booth numbers 1245 & 1247) and see our CashLuxe Fine yarn (among others) up close and in my Les Abeilles shawl.
Busy and tired as I am, I’m looking forward to doing more airplane knitting… although this time, my flight is a red-eye (whyyy did I book that?) and I’m not sure how much knitting I’ll get done. However, I did manage to get this done over the holidays… my first ever Ishbel, made for Michelle’s birthday in CashSilk Lace (Tourmaline).
Well. When I’m back home, I’ll tell you about the new colours we’ve been cooking up. In the meantime… please, please send any tips and ideas for what I should see/do/eat in New York… and maybe we’ll see you at Vogue.
Yay! Your first visit to NYC! Make sure to visit the new Purl store, and I know you’ll stop by Habu. And Muji! The Temple of Dendur at the Met Museum! The Highline! The Frick collection (if you’re into opulent turn of the century Park Avenue Mansions, like me), the Morgan Library, MOMA… You’ll have so much fun!!
Food suggestions – Any of the momofuku restaurants, Secret Burger Joint is great midtown dining, Pizza at Grimaldi’s (long wait!), Brunch at the Cupping Room in Soho, any of the fresh fruit desserts at Tartine in the Village (the food is good too!), From Rice to Riches for rice pudding, Katz’s Deli, Shake Shack (get the Concrete Jungle!), hot chocolate at Jacques Torres (and chocolate too!) Doughnut Plant… If there’s something you’re in the mood for eating, let me know and I’ll get suggestions going! I just realized I just gave you lots of sweets… because I loves them!
Omg! So many options! Thanks Mari! I’m going to make a big checklist of these :) I almost forgot I have to go see Habu!

I so wish that I could come meet you in NYC. It’s so much closer than Vancouver for me. I’ve been a long time admirer of your work.
Have lots of fun and good eats! Habu is a must!
Oooh! Another vote for Habu! Thanks Amy!!

School Products, Habu (there is a good list with addresses and phone numbers at https://www.ravelry.com/groups/nyc-the-5-boros/pages/5-Boros-LYS) and the bead shops on 6th Ave are close and not-to-be-missed. There’s a fair amount of information in the Vogue Knitting Live group thread regarding other things to do, too.
Whoaaaa! Thank you for pointing me to the Ravelry NYC list… that’s pretty intense. And it reminded me of a couple places I wanted to see as well. Are you going to the Vogue Knitting Live?

Just look up … and ride the subways … and ask for directions from a native. Enjoy your time in NYC. It is an amazing place. oooh, & if it’s a clear day, take a trip to visit Lady Liberty and/or on a clear night the free ferry from Battery Park to Staten Island and photograph the NY cityline on the return trip.

Hi Felicia, I’ll be coming from Boston to NYC for VKL on Saturday and Sunday. Hope to bump into you and tell you in person how much I love your yarns and fibers!
If it’s not too cold, I would recommend walking in Central Park to the Belvedere Castle. The Cloisters are a little far but are worth it (I think it’s part of your MET ticket if you go on the same day). Go to Greenwich village and Soho (and stop by Purl). Walk along the water at the southern tip of Manhattan.
