Hadria Shawl by Corrina Ferguson, knit in Merino Silk Fine (Deep Cove)
At first glance, Hadria appears to be a very complex lace shawl, but in fact, it is based on a simple top-down shape, finished with a delicate crochet bind-off. When Corrina proposed this shawl to me and showed me the lace patterns, I was immediately smitten. It’s the beautiful structure of this shawl… how the long columns of twisted stitches run from the neck to the border of the shawl, organizing the yarnovers into what looks like a double-strand of pearls, and then finishing off with a flowery, perfectly proportionate lace border.
The shawl takes just 2 skeins of our SweetGeorgia Merino Silk Fine, a fingering-weight yarn of 50/50 fine merino and silk. It’s a beautifully slinky and drapey yarn that is also warm and soft. It makes the most beautiful fingering-weight shawls! Our fabulous test knitter, Fiona Ballard, used just 160g of our Merino Silk Fine for her test knit and that is just over 600 yards of fingering-weight yarn.
Please note that the Hadria shawl pattern uses CHARTS for the lace. There are no written instructions for the lace. If you need a little primer in reading lace charts, I recommend Eunny Jang’s classic posts on “Majoring in Lace“.
