One early winter day, I was on a hike out in Colorado, not too long after a recent snowstorm. Most of the snow had melted in the sunny spots, but deeper in the woods, beneath dark evergreens and dormant aspens, the snow clung like a woolen blanket on the ground. The cold air up there in the mountains was crisp and icy where it met the skin on my cheeks. My feet crunched along, following the path my family had left as they marched ahead at a faster pace, when I turned a small bend that forced me to a full stop.
A beat. And then another. All sound hushed. Stillness in winter. Only the wispy fog of my exhale moved. I stood on the edge of a new beginning, a fresh chapter to read. Anticipation hung in the air.
The whole of the woods waited in quiet for what would come next, waiting for me to begin. Anticipation hung in the air.
A distant echo of laughter and childhood squeals shimmered on the edges of my senses and the moment, that blissful moment, blended into my memories. With a small smile, I continued my trek into my new beginning.
A new story to write. A fresh project to start. A first stitch to cast on.
