June 2016 Sock Club // Long Beach

Long Beach. A beautiful stretch of the BC coast line and despite living in the Lower Mainland most of my life, I’ve never been there. It’s on my bucket list of places to see, I especially want to go during storm watching season. However, I’ve seen lots of photos of that area and the colours this month truly reflect its’ beauty.

This month is on bulletproof sock, a luxurious blend of sw merino, nylon, kid mohair and silk. It’s incredibly soft to the touch!

I was excited to get started and decided that I would hold this month’s club doubled, as I loved the way it blended the colours. In this month’s story, Felicia talks about the life lessons she learned from surfing at Long Beach. And funnily enough, for me, those lessons applied to knitting this month’s club!

As I always do when knitting, I looked through my stitch dictionaries and found a herringbone stitch that would be perfect…. so I decided to make a scarf, but I got about 4 inches done and found that when I held it to my neck and because of the tightness of the knit, the mohair was a little scratchy against my skin. So I thought, no problem, I’ll make fingerless mitts instead!

I got this far on the first mitt and found that the stitch pattern used up so much yarn, that I’d already used 20 grams… and was no where close to being half way through the first mitt! I was going to run out of yarn!!

So for the second time, I frogged the project… and I left it sitting like this for a couple of days while I decided what to do next!

I decided to try a different approach and looked through patterns on Ravelry. I came across a pattern by Tin Can Knits that I thought would be perfect. So I cast on and a few hours later I had a finished mitt!

I love the way the colour is mixed up by holding it doubled and the movement it creates in the yarn!

So what did you create with this month’s colour? We’d love to see your project over in the Ravelry group or share in Instagram with hashtags #sweetgeorgiayarns or #sgyclub! Till next month, happy knitting.
