Oh, I’ve had dreams all right. Dreams of lightness, softness, and lacy goodness (especially with the temperatures soaring here in Tennessee where I live). There comes a point in everyone’s knitting lives when they need to step away from the garter stitch and step towards something new, something exciting …. like this new lace shawl knitting pattern by the lovely Fiona Munro. It’s the stuff of dreams!
Fiona’s skills are definitely in the blending and merging of one lace pattern to the next and she works it so masterfully in Evening Fields, a semi-circular shawl. Dappled eyelets sit over gorgeous flower motifs, perfectly mirroring her inspiration: fields of grass shimmering beneath starry skies. To bring it all home into the perfect package, Fiona used CashSilk Lace in Dried Lavender … SWOON. If you haven’t had the chance to try this yarn out, I highly suggest you add it to the queue. Silky, soft, like the underside of a flower petal. The cashmere in it gives it some “grip,” so you won’t have to deal with dropped stitches from slipperiness, as well as impeccable stitch definition.
Evening Fields is worked flat as a single piece, from the center of the straight side outward with increase rows, resulting in a lace shawl pattern that is lightweight and lovely to wear. The pattern offers both written and charted instructions, so every level of knitter can enjoy it.
