October is about so much more than autumn, falling leaves, carving pumpkins, and delighting in the little goblins running about for tricks and treats. Yes, for us crafters, it’s one of the best seasons: SOCKTOBER!
This might be the best socktober ever, too, since we’re releasing the dreamiest new Sock Kits today. We had such fun pairing variegated colours with coordinating semi-solids to take all the guesswork out of colour for your next sock project. There’s a colour set for every style!
Each set contains:
- 1 full skein of Tough Love Sock (425 yd / 388 m per 4 oz / 115 g skein; 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon) in a variegated colourway.
- 1 mini skein of Tough Love Sock (105 yd / 96 m per 1 oz / 28 g skein; 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon) in a coordinating semi-solid colourway.
I think I’m going to make a couple of socks for holiday gifts this year (shhh, don’t tell my mom or grandmother). I picked up a set of Rose Canyon (though now I am looking at Tellico and thinking that will soon end up in my cart, too) and the Hele sock knitting pattern, and I am going to cast on this evening when I’m off work. We updated Hele this week to add a couple more sizes, too! A little lace, a bit of ribbing, and a touch of textureโI think it will fill my need for “detail.”
Maybe you’ll want to knit along with me?
We have a lot of other sock patterns to choose from, but I hope you’ll grab one of the new Sock Sets and join me in knocking one of my gift knits off the list.
Ok, so my knitting plan looks like this:
- Today through Oct 17, knit the cuffs and legs. That’s about, oh, I’m estimating 72 rounds for each sock, so if I can hit 20-21 rounds a day, I’ll get it done.
- Oct 18-24, move on to the heel flap, heel turn, gusset section, and perhaps some of the foot. I’ll use the same 20-21 rounds as my aim.
- Oct 25-31, wrap it up with the foot and toe. Totally doable!
If you are new to socks, I encourage you to check out a membership in the School of SweetGeorgia so you can work through the Custom Top-Down Socks for Beginners course or the Custom Toe-Up Socks course. Each one walks you through, (step-by-step. Hehe) everything you need to know to knit a custom pair of socks for any yarn in any gauge.
I can’t wait to watch these colours come together. Be sure to share your sock plans with me!
