Next Steps with Sectional Warping

So, we had starting talking a couple of weeks ago about sectional warping, and today it’s very exciting… I am no longer behind the loom. I’m now working in front of the loom, getting all of the ends threaded through the reed of the Mira loom, getting ready to weave. And so on today’s Taking Back Friday episode, I wanted to very quickly share with you a few of the next steps when it comes to sectional warping.

A couple of weeks ago I set up a sectional beam to wind yarn onto the loom in a different way than I have normally done so (using a warping board, back to front technique and such), but this is different. I was finding a lot of videos out there with people cranking the back beam and making these sections, but I didn’t really see how you would get the yarn from the sectional beam to the heddles, for threading the heddles. So, I wanted to just share with you a few of the little steps I took in order to get that to happen.

The weaving of this baby blanket project will all be a part of a class at the School of SweetGeorgia which will be on twill gamps and weaving twill on a 4-shaft looms. A twill gamp demonstrates all of the different variations and patterns you can get by doing different kinds of threading or treadling. The baby blanket project is an extrapolation of the twill gamp by taking one of the patterns in there, and expressing it in a larger cloth.
