We have something new to share… as Felicia hinted in last week’s Taking Back Friday Live, and following the announcement fresh this morning by Marie Greene of Olive Knits, we’re excited to join in the fun of Marie’s 4-day Sailaway sweater knit-along!
Have you ever wanted to knit a sweater in just four days. Do you even think that’s possible?
Starting on July 1st, the 6th annual knit-along is a great opportunity to throw some sweater knitting motivation your way (if you happen to need it), and also to make some friendly connections with others in the knitting community. Whether it takes you slightly longer than four days, or you’re able to complete it in time, in the end you’ll have a fabulous new cardigan to wear all summer long!
We’re very lucky to have had the opportunity to take a look at the pattern preview ahead of time, and Charlotte at the SweetGeorgia studio knit the sweater in just four days. So, we’re going to let her tell you a little bit about how she did it, and if you also stay until the end of the video, we have a little coupon code to share so you can knit your own Sailaway!
We’ve listed the yardage and pattern details below, plus we’ve also put together some fun SweetGeorgia colour combos if you’re looking for help with what to choose. We’re excited to see all of the sweaters that come out of these four days. We wish you much luck!
Pattern Preorder
Pattern pre-orders are now available for Marie’s Sailaway pattern – available over at Ravelry and at the Olive Knits website. Note: The pattern is available at a discounted rate until June 6th.
This year’s sweater is a top-down, seamless cardigan with a round yoke shape and traditional button bands. It features one main color and two contrast colors.
Yarn Suggestions
For this design, we’ve put together some fun colourway combo ideas. The pattern includes options to knit either a DK or worsted-weight cardigan. We suggest taking a look at either our BFL + Silk DK, Superwash DK or Superwash Worsted yarn bases.
Main colour + Contrast Colour 1 + Contrast Colour 2
As shown in the video, Charlotte’s sample was knit using Superwash Worsted in Tumbled Stone + our Party of Five Mini-Skein set in Frozen Blueberry. Using four of the mini-skeins, hold two similar-coloured strands together (to create CC1 and CC2), and then the fifth mini-skein could work for swatching the yoke (held doubled), or saved for a future project.

These estimates translate nicely for both DK and worsted weight, but may vary slightly according to your yarn selection.
