Our Club is a creative practice that pushes each of us to try new things with colour, texture, yarn, and fibre. Misty created this month’s colourway and here is her story:
Colour // Character Study, by Misty Saunby
Most people who’ve designed colourways here at SweetGeorgia take inspiration from an personal experience or emotional journey, but my first stab at this is a little different. My education is in costuming for film and theater. Costuming is a tool in building a character — it can be used as an aid to the actor as well as provide shorthand for the audience, and colour is the strongest component of that tool. I created this colourway while playing, but when I look at it, I can’t help but see a character.
Who is this character? These colours tell us so much about her. The mink suggests elegance. The browns tell you she’s capable of austerity and seriousness. The wine red demonstrates maturity and toughness, but you can see it’s grown through that whimsical pink blush from an apricot pink; she has a soft, tender nature. I’d dress her in drapey fabrics with feminine structural details; cowl necks and bell sleeves. She owns sensible, heeled shoes, but she owns A LOT of them, and she coordinates them with her handbags, and her lipstick matches her nail polish.
If the costumer does her job well, you’ll feel like you know this person at a glance, you find her believable.
I’m just playing here, but I want to invite you to do the same with this colourway – find a way to use it to say something you want to convey and make your own Character Study!

Yarn // Superwash Sport
Superwash Sport is 100% superwash merino spun with a tighter twist into a 3-ply sportweight yarn. Each 100g skein has approximately 328 yards. We love working with this yarn because knitting socks with a slightly fatter weight can make for faster project completion! It’s also beautifully soft and springy for a knitting yarn and could easily be worked up into a shawl or other accessory.
Fibre // Superwash Merino
Superwash Merino is 100% superwash merino wool that is delightfully puffy and fluffy. “Superwash” makes it easy care, but can also make it a little more slippery to spin. If you are having trouble holding onto this fibre, perhaps consider spinning it from the fold. Breaking off chunks of fibre and folding it over the index finger of your fibre supply hand can help you manage this slippery fibre!

Each month, we dye a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. This post is all about what we sent out to our members in February 2017.
