Reveal: December 2016 Club Colourway // Silver Lining

This month, our colourway was created by Charlotte Lee, one of our talented and passionate dyers who is celebrating two years at SweetGeorgia this December! Time flies when you are enjoying colour!

Colour // Silver Lining, by Charlotte Lee

Someone once told me this: โ€œThe biggest problem is not the fact that you have a problem, but you donโ€™t know how to face the problem.โ€ I faced my biggest problem when I was 23, as a student fresh out of school.

In 2014, I graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design from the animation program, and I knew animation was no longer my dream. The love for animation was still in me, however, making it and watching it were just two different stories. I tried to figure out something else to do, and realized that I need to do crafts. If I spent twice as much time crafting as watching animations, it was pretty obvious which way I should go. It was not easy though, because I had no idea where to start.

The six months trying and waiting was the darkest time I ever experienced. Everyday I lived with fear and uncertainty. I donโ€™t remember how many times I cried and kneeled down to pray. There was once I even wanted to lock myself up and hoped to see no one.

And then SweetGeorgia Yarns came into my way, like a Silver Lining. I sent out plenty of resumรฉs for animator positions, just to ease my parentsโ€™ hearts, but on the other side, I put all my hope in SweetGeorgiaโ€™s dyeing position.

At the end, my wish was granted, and thatโ€™s the beginning of another adventurous story.ย

Yarn // CashLuxe Spark

CashLuxe Spark is just like our beloved CashLuxe Fine yarn with a sprinkling of sparkle! This yarn is 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, and 10% sparkling stellina spun up into a 3-ply fingering weight yarn. Each 115g skein has approximately 400 yards which is typically enough to make a pair of womenโ€™s medium socks.

Fibre //ย Silk Puff

This fibre blend has long confounded me. Itโ€™s a blend of 40% merino wool, 40% superwash merino wool, and 20% silk. The mixture of treated and untreated wool provides a canvas for the dye that creates more depth and differential take-up of colour. And the streaks of silk provide luminosity. While untreated merino and silk blends can sometimes dye up into a firm, compact fibre preparation, the inclusion of 20% silk keeps this fibre blend puffy and soft, easy to draft, and beautiful to spin. Just note that despite the superwash content, some of this fibre will felt, so treat all your handspun and handknits from this fibre with care.

Each month, we dye a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. This post is all about what we sent out to our members in Decemberย 2016.
