Each month, we dye a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. It’s safe to say that our Club members have all received their January 2015 Club packages, so I wanted to share with you what we sent out for our SGYCLUB in January:
Colourway // Snow Queen
This month, Iโve been unexpectedly inspired by the frosty fairytale, the Snow Queen, and the wildly popular animated movie, โFrozenโ. Last November, we had our baby right when this movie was hitting the theatres. Being relative shut-ins since the baby arrived in our lives, the spectacular fandom of Frozen largely escaped us until this holiday season when it happened to be on TV. My husband and I spent the evening of Christmas Eve curled up on the couch watching this movie ourselves… no kids required. And now, I canโt go a day without humming the songs to myself.
Yarn // Silk Crush
Silk Crush is our 50/50 Superwash Merino and Tussah Silk blend in a 2-ply fingering weight. There are approximately 375 yards (343 m) per 4 oz (115 g) skein. The combination of the pearl-like twist and the glittery silk content gives the skein a rustic or โcrunchyโ look, but once itโs knit up, it just drapes and shines like nothing else.
Fibre // Polwarth Mohair Silk
This is a brand new blend for us that we are super excited to spin! Polwarth Mohair Silk is a blend of 65% polwarth wool, 25% young adult mohair, and 10% tussah silk. It has a beautiful glossy and slightly shiny appearance in the fibre, due to the mohair content. Polwarth is a sheep breed that is 75% Merino and 25% Lincoln, designed to be a dual-purpose (meat and wool) sheep. The softness of merino, coupled with the shine of mohair, and the luxurious crunch of tussah silk make this an interesting blend. It has not been treated for superwash, so be gentle when you wash your handspun yarns and handknits. We love this fibre so much, it might soon make our permanent collection!
