Welcome to a new year for the SweetGeorgia Club! We hope to explore and share our personal stories through colour and hope that it sparks some creativity in your hands!
Colour // Fast Forward, by Felicia Lo
Scroll through your social media feeds and youโll see plenty of posts saying โgood riddanceโ to 2016 and looking forward to a better new year. As I shared with our SweetGeorgia team at Christmas, 2016 marks us being in our current studio space for five years. When we moved in five years ago, everything was different and at the time it was easy to dream of the future but also hard to imagine if and when it would all come true.
This past holiday season, I was spurred to think of a new vision, a new imagining, and a new dream that will propel us towards the next five years. It would be so easy if I could press Fast Forward and watch all of lifeโs secrets unfold for us. Then I would know exactly the right moves to make to create the life we are seeking. But that also takes all the fun out of it too. The joy of stories is meandering through all those twists and turns and seeing where it all leads.
My practice of designing colourways has taken on an allegorical nature over the years. I love the idea of colour as metaphor. Strong, vibrant fuschia pinks usually represent me and tinges of persimmon and tangerine are usually my family. And in this colourway, I canโt explain it any other way than it feels like I am stepping forward at the precipice towards an unfamiliar nightfall. The vast unknown holds many secrets and stories for the future. How are you feeling about 2017?

Yarn // Tough Love Sock
Tough Love Sock has been one of our most popular and best-selling sock yarns over the years, perhaps because of itโs combination of softness and strength or because it takes colour so clearly and vibrantly! Spun from 80% superwash and supersoft fine merino and 20% nylon into a 3-ply yarn, this yarn is so versatile โ knit it firmly for hard wearing socks, knit it loosely for drapey shawls, or knit it doubled for a great worsted weight substitute.
Fibre //ย Superwash Merino + Nylon
This fibre blend has quickly become one of my favourites to spin. Easy, soft, squishy, puffy, you name it. Superwash Merino + Nylon is a blend of 85% superwash merino wool with 15% nylon, making it a beautifully soft, easy-care, and nylon-reinforced fibre ideal for spinning into sock yarns!
Interested in seeing what some of our Club members are making with their yarn and fibre? Check out Rachel’s spinning posts about what she’s been spinning from our monthly fibre. And welcome Katrina, who has been knitting up each month’s yarn into something spectacular!
Each month, we dye a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. This post is all about what we sent out to our members in January 2017.
