Reveal: July 2017 Club Colourway // Flamingo

This month’s colourway is a colour study, or an attempt to accurately represent colours.

Colour // Flamingo, by Felicia Lo

These past few months have been exceptionally busy at SweetGeorgia as we have been preparing for The National Needlearts Association (TNNA) trade show where we share our new yarns, colours, and patterns with the community of yarn shop owners. At the same time, I’ve also started work on developing the School of SweetGeorgia and building video-based online fibre arts education there. So it’s been unusually busy.

And so, my family and I decided to take a little break to San Diego for a few days after TNNA. It might sound silly, but I just love San Diego. To me, it’s like a little magical town where it’s sunny every day and there is sand, surf, and fish tacos. It’s perfection.

I’ve been a couple times before, but this time visiting San Diego, I had so many Flamingo encounters and it left me somewhat obsessed with flamingos. I’ve seen them all stylized and illustrated on Instagram in bright pinks on teal backgrounds, so I was initially confused about why all the real flamingos I was seeing were in fact very warm hues of apricot and peach, grapefruit and coral with just a touch of the cooler pinks. It made for an interesting colour study for myself and I hope you enjoy these soft and peachy pinks.

Yarn // Flaxen Silk Fine

July 2017 SweetGeorgia Club Colourway // Flamingo // on Flaxen Silk Fine knitting yarn

This is a first for the Club… a fingering-weight yarn that is wool-free! Flaxen Silk Fine is one of our newest yarns in the collection! This yarn is 65% silk and 35% linen spun up into a fingering weight yarn. Each 115g skein has approximately 480 yards of yarn.

Fibre // Merino + Tussah

July 2017 SweetGeorgia Club Colourway // Flamingo // on Merino+Tussah spinning fibre

Merino+Tussah is a beautiful blend of 80% soft merino wool and 20% tussah silk. The light addition of silk brings a gentle luminous quality to the fibre blend.

Since the process of dyeing fibre can compact and compress the fibres together, you might find that the fibre feels a little more dense than you might be used to with a superwash fibre. Simply loosen up the fibres prior to spinning by pre-drafting a little or splitting it up lengthwise. It will make the spinning go by so much quicker!

Each month, we dye a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. This post is all about what we sent out to our members in July 2017.
