There’s a new book that I haven’t been able to put down. Literally. I think I have picked it up to read every day this week: Short Row Knits: A Master Workshop with 20 Learn-As-You-Knit Projects by Carol Feller. We are delighted that Carol used our yarn for one of the amazing pieces!
We all know the brilliance that is Carol Feller, she’s famous for designs that are skill-building, engaging, and beautiful. It’s only natural, then, that her new book presents all of those same attributes in spades. Short rows have long been a confusing shaping element for me (no idea why), but Carol takes us step-by-step through understanding the mechanics and functions of short rows in superb detail. From shoulder shaping to socks, waist shaping to curved-hems for design, she covers every question you could possibly ask. And she shows how to work all the different variations of short rows, as well as what scenarios each one is suited for. It’s like the perfect reference book + design book in one. You absolutely need it!
You’ll find our yarn in a stunning piece called Volcan, a wrap worked in a series of modular wedges. It is fascinating in its construction and shows off the delicacies of hand-dyed yarn perfectly. Each wedge is shaped differently, really letting you have the chance to practice your new-found skills. I can see so many ways to wear this wrap and because of the lightweight fibres of Silk Crush, it has a year-round use.
