Slackcountry Socks

Feeling pretty blessed that I got to spend some time up at Whistler this weekend. In my dream version of my life, I’d spend 100 days on the mountain every year… but in reality, it’s more like ten days. I spend so much of my waking hours thinking about the mountain, that it just seemed natural that I name Alison Green’s new sock design, “Slackcountry Socks“.

Slackcountry is skiing and riding just outside marked ski boundaries in search of fresh powder. The twisting and turning lines in these socks look like fresh ski tracks within straight boundary lines.

Slackcountry Socks are knit from the top down with twisted stitches in an elegant rib and cable pattern. The twisted stitches make for crisp and defined columns in this design. Alison designed these socks for us in our Tough Love Sock (in Pistachio), but you can also knit it in BFL Sock for harder wearing socks too.

The columnar pattern itself is like a ribbing, so you cast on and dive right into the pattern stitches. No separate ribbed cuff is needed. These socks feature a reinforced Dutch heel for strength and durability. Sole of the foot is knit in stockinette for comfort.

I love that this pair is knit in this fresh, bright lime colour. It makes me think of clean and fresh starts. Perfect for springtime!

The pattern includes both written and charted directions and is delivered as a 5-page PDF file. Find it now on Ravelry:

And from now until March 31, 2013, you can get $1 off the pattern through Ravelry or our website, automatically.
