I’ve always been intrigued by the beauty of the stitch patterns used in traditional Shetland shawls. My design combines historic stitch patterns with a more modern shape. The ‘holes’ in the lace sections remind me of the blossom of allium, one of my favorite plants in our garden.

The lace in this gorgeous shawl is positively mesmerizing, stunning, and leave you breathless with anticipation. It is ever more lovely knit in our ultra-soft Merino Silk Lace. Taevas is a crescent-shaped shawl that promises lace bliss throughout. You can purchase Taevas via our Website or Ravelry.

MONE’S TIP FOR KNITTING TAEVAS

Use lifelines in the lace section. Lots of them. The pattern isn’t very difficult, but it is true lace with patterned right and wrong side rows and it can get difficult when there are mistakes to fix. Lifelines every couple of rows save knitters from accidentally ripping out more rows than necessary in case there is something that needs to be changed.

BEHIND THE BRILLIANCE: MONE’S FIVE FAVES

Favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon: I’ve got a season ticket for our local soccer team, so every other week I spend the Saturday afternoon in the stadium and it is fun to support the team together with thousands of fans. Well, it’s my favorite way to spend the day depending on how they are doing (not all that good at the moment, unfortunately).

Favorite knitting fiber: Merino and merino blends with silk or cashmere. It’s nice on the hands to knit and even nicer to wear.

Favorite guilty pleasure: Yarn purchases even though my stash is the size of a small yarn store, maybe? I don’t know why, but I never seem to have the right yarn when I want to start a new project and also, truth be told, there are so many beautiful yarns I just wish to have in my stash even if it is just to fondle and admire.

Favorite spring activity: When it gets warmer and sunny I enjoy spending some time in our garden, even though mowing the lawn isn’t high on my list of favorite things. I prefer to take care of all the flowers.

Favorite thing to wear in the spring: Fingerless mitts to keep my hands warm but my fingers free to do all the things there are to do outdoors. Lightweight shawlettes that I wear like a kerchief when we go for walks or bicycle trips.
