The Multicraftual Mindset

If you knit or spin or weave or dye, or any combination of more than one craft, this might resonate with you. There is a unique challenge that plagues people who love more than one craft. That is, there is not enough time to do all the things. And so we get caught up in trying to do all the things… All the time. It’s exhausting and we get nowhere. Surely there is a different way of looking at things.

In this week’s episode of Taking Back Friday, I talk about what I’m calling “The Multicraftual Mindset” where I suggest a more emotionally sustainable way of being a maker.

Creativity is an iterative process. It’s a process that goes through multiple stages. Ideation. Preparation. Execution. Evaluation. Each time you go through the creative cycle, you learn something new or you better your skills a little bit more. And then you do it again. If you are busy doing a creative cycle over here (in knitting) and here (in spinning) and here (in weaving) and here (in dyeing), do you think that might make you tired?

I propose a bigger creative cycle that encompasses all of the fibre crafts that you enjoy, but allowing each craft to flow naturally into the next, in a continuum. Watch the vlog to see more!

If you’ve ever struggled with managing your time around multiple crafts, I’d love for you to share your thoughts and solutions with me. Help us with our Multicraftual Mindset survey ยป
