Today I’m going to share a little bit of an update on what I’ve been working on… what I’ve been knitting, what I’ve been spinning and weaving lately, plus I also want to talk about bringing a loom back from the dead.
On Today’s Taking Back Friday vlog episode, join me as I share this update about some of the things that have been happening with my time lately. From a recent getaway to Whistler and camping with my family, I share how this all led to the inspiration for new projects, or reinventions of projects past completed. Among this, includes the story of rescuing and restoring an old table loom which has been going from home to storage to home after the past many years.

- what I’m wearing today: I’m wearing my Hearthstone Shawl, handwoven in our Multishaft Weaving Basics course on the School of SweetGeorgia (pattern included in the course). This was woven using SweetGeorgia BFL+Silk DK yarn in Mulberry, Ginger and Deep Cove.
- what I’m currently working on: I’m currently knitting the Soundtrack sweater by Marie Greene of Olive Knits. I’m knitting mine in BFL+Silk DK in Mulberry and Lupine. I also recently finished spinning and plying my handspun Superwash BFL, spun from dyeing workshop leftovers. I plan to knit these into The Shift cowl design by Andrea Mowry.
- what I’m also talking about: In today’s vlog, I show a closer look at the steps I took to clean up and bring back to life an old table loom. A contact passed your Aug. 21 blog on to me. I have exactly the same table loom you have, by Harley Darnel. I bought it at an auction, and know nothing of its history. I have done one sample with it. I am having trouble getting all the threads to open, so have to tease it open to pass the shuttle through. I may need to adjust the cord length for the shafts. Do you have any idea when these were made?

I run into your vlog as I was browsing and looking for info about the “Mainland Cottage table loom” you resurrected.
I bought the same loom from an MCC thrift store last year hoping that I would teach myself on it. However, I now noticed that it is missing the beater. Is there anyway, I can find a used or even new beater/read that can fit into that. Do you give weaving lessons in person? I would like to spend some time learning. I have the basic ideas of the mechanics but would love to try it myself.
I live in Ladner, BC and if I am correct I think you are in Vancouver. I would like to visit your studio/shop if it is open to public.

Hi Salem! Oh interesting! I could bring my old table loom in for you to look at. Getting a new reed is no problem, since they are sold individually. Not sure about getting a new beater for this loom… I don’t currently give in-person weaving lessons and all the teaching I’m doing is through the School of SweetGeorgia in online videos. You are more than welcome to visit our studio in Vancouver. We are open on weekdays from 10 am to 5 pm.
