It’s time… pattern preorders have now begun for Olive Knits 4 Day Sweater Knit-Along and we’re so excited to join in the KAL fun with some yarn suggestions!
This is the fourth year that Marie Greene of Olive Knits is hosting her popular 4 day sweater knit-along. Yes, you read that right – 4 days! It all began in 2017 when Marie was looking for a distraction from other knitting related to-dos and knit a new sweater in 4 days (read about it here) because “sometimes you need to take a break from your knitting by doing some other knitting”.
Don’t let the timeline deter you though – knit-alongs are a fun opportunity to help motivate and inspire some fun knitting along with others in the community. In the end, no matter how long it takes you to finish your knit, the hope is you’ve made some new friends along the way plus have a lovely new sweater to enjoy!

Pattern Preorder
Starting today, May 28, the Soundtrack pattern is available for preorder either via Ravelry or from the Olive Knits website at a discounted price of $8 USD. Once you’ve purchased the pattern preorder, you will receive all the gauge, sizing and swatching details – everything needed to get you ready for the cast on date.
On June 15th, the pattern discount price ends and the price increases to $9 USD.
The KAL cast on then officially begins on July 1st!
This year’s KAL dates run from July 1st to August 1st; 4x more days available for you to knit your sweater (instead of 4-8 days, everyone gets 16-32 days).
Yarn suggestions
Now onto choosing the yarn! This year’s sweater design is called Soundtrack – a circular yoke pullover with slipped stitch details, designed with a unisex fit. For this design, we’ve put together some fun colourway pairings across 3 different SweetGeorgia yarn bases.
First is our BFL+Silk DK (75% bluefaced leicester, 25% silk) non-superwash yarn, and we love the pairings:

The yardage requirements shared on Marie’s preorder page are:
Main Color:
900 (1000, 1100, 1188, 1283, 1360, 1442, 1528, 1620) yards / 823 (914, 1005, 1086, 1173, 1243, 1318, 1397, 1481) meters
Contrast Color:
175 (187, 200, 212, 229, 243, 257, 273, 289) yards / 160 (171, 183, 194, 209, 222, 235, 249, 264) meters

I’m a bit confused on ordering yarn for the KAL Soundtrack. I have your suggestions, but some of the colors are not on your website, or the stock is at 0. How should I go about ordering?
Another question: I’m not familiar with your blends. I think I’d like a “rustic” feel to the yarn. Which should I choose? The mohair silk? I assume the superwash would not have any fuzz. Which would you recommend, the mohair silk or the BFL+silk?

Thanks so much Susan! Yes, we “dye to order” for the majority of the colours and yarns on our website (it’s hard to keep nearly 2000 different yarn+colour combinations on hand for sweater quantities!) but we dye and delivery very quickly and you’ll have it in time for the pattern instructions which go out on July 1, I believe.
In terms of a more “rustic” feel, I highly recommend the BFL+Silk DK which has a beautiful feel and holds up very well for sweater knitting! Good luck and enjoy the KAL!!

I purchased the Soundtrack pattern yesterday, and checked my stash and found 8 skeins of your super wash Dk in boysenberry. I thought I had the mulberry color and was all set to order the lady grey as the contrast. Are the Boysenberry and Mulberry close enough in the Purple range to use the lady grey? Or would you recommend another color? Looking forward to the KAL!
